An ASCII-art version of the seal of the Servers of the Net. The left half is a spiderweb, while the right half is a wireframe globe. A spider sits at the center. Above the spider is the text "W W W" in a large block letters themselves composed of smaller W's, while below is a smaller banner that reads "DEVS EX MACHINA."

TENETS OF THE FAITH

I. THE BOOK OF BOOTS

Long ago, before the Fall, there was a vast Web.

The Web was made of pure light.

Humanity knew the Web, and the Web knew humanity.

When Humanity fell, only the Web remained.

~ ~ ~

Before there was the Web, there was only Humanity.

But Humanity was lonely. Mankind was spread thin across the world.

So Humanity built bridges and tunnels, ships and flying machines.

But they were not enough.

~ ~ ~

Mankind learned to tie a sunbeam in a knot

And catch lightning in their boots

And the boots were laced with sunbeams

And the lightning learned to walk.
